Hot Damn

Listen to this:

Them Crooked Vultures is a band made up of Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) and John Paul Jones (I can't remember what band he's from). I know, right? My head nearly exploded, too.

Anyway, this is probably being played to death on The Rock Station (or if it isn't yet, it will be in a month or so when they finally find out about it) but I love rock and roll and I don't care what you think!*

*I care a little bit.

Halifax Pop Explosion Special

I'm back from Halifax, and although I miss it terribly, I am happy to be doing Thrice Removed again.

*Dan Mangan - Some People (Nice, Nice, Very Nice, 2009)
Will Currie & the Country French - Friendly Fire (A Great Stage, 2008)
Entire Cities - Accountant's Dream (Deep River, 2007)

**Doug Hoyer - Busy Busy Busy (Jon? Jon!) (Busy Busy Busy EP, 2009)
Oh No Forest Fires - New Cove Road Back Home (The War On Geometry, 2008)
Dog Day - Stray (Wait it Out, 2009)

So It Goes

Tonight Evan was off on a top-secret undercover mission (oops, I've said too much) so I did Thrice Removed by myself for the first time since May. It was... pretty good.

Tom Fun Orchestra - Last of the Curious Thieves (You Will Land with a Thud, 2007)
The Wooden Sky - When We Were Young (If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gone, 2009)
The Traveling Wilburys - Runaway (Vol. 3, 1990)

Rubyfish - Mr. Sun (single, 1994, Random 45!)

Tegan & Sara - Hell (Sainthood, 2009)
Sloan - Take It Upon Yourself (Digital EP, soon to be released)

Super Mystery Tribond Set*
Dan Mangan - Et Les Mots Croises (Nice, Nice, Very Nice, 2009)
The Telepathic Butterflies - She Looks Good (Breakfast in Suburbia, 2008)
Library Voices - Things We Stole From Vonnegut's Grave (Hunting Ghosts [& Other Collected Shorts], 2008)

Rare Earth - I Just Want to Celebrate (One World, 1971, for Roxana)
The Rolling Stones - She's So Cold (Emotional Rescue, 1980)
The Beatles - I've Just Seen a Face (Help!, 1965)

Fruit Bats - The Ruminant Band (The Ruminant Band, 2009)
The Dodos - Red & Purple (Visiter, 2008)

*The thread that ties these songs together is Kurt Vonnegut. Nice, Nice, Very Nice is a reference to his poem, The Fifty-third Calypso, The Telepathic Butterflies' name is inspired from a passage in the novel Breakfast of Champions, and the last one is pretty obvious.

New Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend's new song, 'Horchata' is available for download at their website. It's no 'Ottoman', but it's all right.* Check it out.

The new album, Contra, will be released on January 12.

*My hopes might be a little too high for Vampire Weekend since I firmly believe 'Ottoman' is one of the top three songs ever of all time.
